What Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve, which runs through a narrow passageway in your wrist called the carpal tunnel, becomes compressed. This compression is most often caused by inflammation and swelling of the surrounding tendons and tissues. Symptoms include numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand and fingers, particularly the thumb, index, and middle fingers.
The condition is common among people who perform repetitive hand and wrist motions, but it can also result from arthritis, diabetes, thyroid disorders, and fluid retention. When left untreated, carpal tunnel can lead to permanent nerve damage and loss of grip strength.
Conventional treatments range from wrist splints and cortisone injections to carpal tunnel release surgery. While these approaches help some patients, many continue to experience symptoms or see their pain return months after treatment.
How LDRT Treats Carpal Tunnel
LDRT addresses carpal tunnel syndrome by reducing the chronic inflammation that compresses the median nerve. Unlike cortisone, which temporarily suppresses inflammation and wears off, LDRT triggers a lasting anti-inflammatory response at the tissue level.
During each session, a focused, low-energy beam of radiation is directed at the wrist. The treatment is painless, requires no anesthesia, and takes only a few minutes per session. There are no incisions, no injections, and no restrictions on activity afterward.
By calming the inflammatory environment around the carpal tunnel, LDRT helps relieve pressure on the nerve, which can restore sensation and reduce pain without surgical intervention.
Who Is a Candidate for LDRT?
You may be a good candidate for LDRT if traditional carpal tunnel treatments have not worked for you. This includes patients who:
- Received cortisone injections that provided only temporary or no improvement
- Wore a wrist splint consistently without meaningful relief
- Tried PRP therapy or stem cell injections without success
- Underwent carpal tunnel release surgery but still have symptoms
- Want to avoid surgery or are not a good surgical candidate
At Heelex Surprise, we specialize in helping patients who have been told there is nothing left to try. LDRT is a well-established treatment in European orthopedic medicine and is now available in the greater Phoenix area.
What to Expect
Your treatment begins with a consultation at our Surprise, Arizona clinic. We review your medical history, imaging, and previous treatments to develop a personalized plan.
Treatment is delivered over approximately six sessions across two to three weeks. Each visit is brief, and you can drive yourself to and from the clinic. There is no sedation, no prep, and no recovery period. Most patients notice a gradual reduction in numbness, tingling, and pain in the weeks following their final session.
